Nutritious Breakfast Ideas For Your ‘Workout’ Days

You’ve probably heard the saying “breakfast is the most important meal of the day" at some point in your life. Some people turn their heads at this old adage, but truer words could not be spoken, especially if you’re looking to build muscle mass. There are three key elements necessary for building bigger muscles: strength training, recovery and nutrition. The secret to starting your day off with proper nutrition and energy is with a healthy breakfast. But what constitutes a ‘healthy’ breakfast? For some nutritious breakfast ideas to get your workout day started on the right track, keep reading.

2 Eggs With a Slice of Whole Wheat Toast

Nothing beats a good old fashioned breakfast consisting of two eggs and a slice of whole wheat toast. It only takes a couple of minutes to fry up some eggs on the strove, making this an excellent on-the-go breakfast for your workout days.

Unfortunately, some people are under the notion that eggs are bad for your health since they contain a moderate amount of dietary cholesterol. Well, you’ll be pleased to hear that numerous studies have since laid this rumor to rest. The yolk of eggs do in fact contain dietary cholesterol, but this doesn’t translate into actual body cholesterol.

Here are some of the beneficial nutrients found in eggs:

  • 9 essential amino acids
  • Iron
  • Phosphorus
  • Selenium
  • Vitamins A, B12, B2 and B5
  • 100+ mg of Choline per egg

Low-Fat Yogurt With Blueberries

Another quick and easy breakfast idea that’s perfect for your workout days is a cup of low-fat yogurt topped with blueberries or your choice of fruit. Yogurt, assuming it’s low-fat, is a nutritious food that’s loaded with beneficial vitamins and nutrients. A cup of yogurt may contain anywhere between 10-15 grams of protein, along with a slew of vitamins.

What’s even more impressive with yogurt is its content of probiotics. Technically, probiotics are living bacteria microbes that roam free in yogurt. Some people may turn their head at the thought of eating bacteria, but probiotics are the good kind, and consuming their in your morning breakfast will improve digestion, boost your immune system, prevent constipation and much more.

If you don’t enjoy the natural taste of plain yogurt, you can add some fresh fruit to make it more palatable. Blueberries topped over low-fat vanilla yogurt is one of my favorite choices, but you can also try cranberries, strawberries, banana slices,
