In this post, we’re going to cover 5 important tips to improve your gym workout.
Tip #1 – Push Yourself
The number one rule when it comes to gym workouts is to push yourself. If you remain in your comfort zone by lifting the same set of weights day after day, your muscle growth will slow to a crawl. Try to get into the habit of increasing your weights every 7-14 days, even if it’s only by five additional pounds. And if you are worried that it’s too much for you to lift, find a spotter to watch over you. Most people will be more than happy to spot you while you attempt to lift a new set of weights.
Tip #2 – Use Proper Form
I can’t stress enough the importance of using proper form during your gym workouts. There are several reasons why proper form is important, one of which is the benefit it offers to your muscles. Using the right form may result in fewer reps and sets; however, it will place a greater strain on your muscles, which ultimately increases the effectiveness of your workouts. Don’t be afraid to ask one of the gym’s trainers for help on your form.
Tip #3 – Don’t Wait For Machines
It’s frustrating when you get ready to use a machine only to discover that someone else is currently using it. Some people may feel the need to wait in line until the individual finishes his or her workout, but generally isn’t recommended. The fact is that you don’t know how long the person will be on the machine. In addition, standing by a machine will someone is using it is bad manners. Let them work out in peace and find a different machine or set of weights to use in the meantime.
Tip #4 – Bring a Snack
Don’t forget to bring a snack with you on your gym workout days. Whether you perform cardio, strength training or combination of the two, your energy levels are bound to get sapped. Thankfully, you can boost your energy levels back up with a healthy snack. Stick with all-natural snacks like fresh cut celery or carrot sticks along with a side of peanut butter or a cup of yogurt.
Tip #5 – Rest and Recovery
A fifth and final tip that’s sure to increase the effectiveness of your gym workouts is to allow your body ample time to recover. Constantly hitting the gym in full force day after day will break your muscle fibers down even further. A good rule of thumb is to wait at least 48 hours in between strength training workouts.
