5 Factors That Can Slow Down Your Weight Loss Progress

Can’t seem to lose weight no matter how much time you spend exercising at the gym? It’s downright frustrating when you follow a strict dieting and exercise regime only to discover little-to-no change in your weight. This lack of results forces some people to fall back into their old lifestyle habits. Well, the reasons why you aren’t losing weight may be caused from one or more of the following factors.

#1) Low Metabolism

Metabolism is the natural process of breaking down carbs, proteins and fats into a simple form of energy. Individuals with low metabolism will naturally have a harder time losing weight than individuals with a high metabolism. When the body is working overtime to break down and convert compounds into energy, you’ll burn a greater amount of calories. Work on boosting your metabolism through regular exercise, snacking frequently (healthy snacks), and maintaining a strict diet.

#2) Not Enough Sleep

Do you toss and turn all night long, getting only few ‘good’ hours of sleep? You might be surprised to learn that lack of sleep contributes to weight gain. When you continuously deprive your body of proper sleep, your hormones are thrown off balance and your metabolism drops. Some of these hormones are responsible for controlling hunger urges; therefore, you’re more likely to feel hungry throughout the day even if your stomach is technically full.

Ideally, you should strive for a solid 6-7 hours of sleep each night. Turning off the television and removing any distractions from the room will help you achieve a more sound sleep. Although it’s tempting to some, avoid the use of sleep aid medication, as this will only create a dependency.

#3) Digestive Problems

Of course, digestive problems may also contribute to weight gain. If your bowel movements have been irregular or subsiding recently, there’s a good chance you are suffering from digestive issues. Thankfully, you can help guide your body back on track by consuming a diet rich in whole grains and fiber. Oats, fruit and certain vegetables are all excellent sources of fiber.

#4) Lack of Energy

The bottom line is that you aren’t going to lose weight is you go through the day with low energy levels. In order to stay on top of your exercise and physical fitness routine, you’ll need plenty of energy. This is why it’s critical to consume the right amount of calories and nutrition each day; otherwise, your body will slow down and you’ll grow tired more easily.

#5) Mood

Are you emotionally upset about something in your professional or personal life? Emotional health plays a direct role in physical health. When you’re upset, depressed, down or simply suffering from a case of the 'blues,’ you’ll have to work extra hard to try and lose weight. Maintaining a positive attitude is easier said than done for some people, but you’ll find that exercising on a regular basis is a huge help. Running, jogging, playing tennis and performing other bouts of cario promotes the release of happy chemicals known as endorphins.
